Hit the Trails

On the first Saturday in June, Landmark Towns and the D&L join trails organizations across the nation to celebrate American Hiking Society’s National Trail Day.  Events were held all along the 165-mile corridor with partner organizations.

Landmark Towns partnered with the Delaware Canal State Park and Heritage Conservancy for a hike, trail clean-up and lunch.  Volunteers met at the southern Washington Crossing Park Trail Head for a guided hike with the park environmental education specialist.  The group hiked to the Heritage Conservancy property, Rose and Sol Preserve, just north of the David Library.  At the Preserve, the staff and volunteers cleared out 71 old tires and stacked them on the side of the Delaware Canal towpath. Park maintenance staff picked them up the following week for proper disposal.

The Rose and Sol Preserve will eventually be the site of a trail that loops through the woods adjacent to the Delaware Canal State Park adding a loop off the towpath for visitors to explore.
